Happy New Year!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

Happy New Year!  I hope that this new year will bring you all much love, happiness, smiles, laughter, success, good health, and surprises on a daily basis.  I trust that you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families.  I hope that your children will return to school happy and rested.  On Monday, we will begin a new year in the education of your children. We have a lot of new and exciting work to study, learn, research, ponder, explore, and discuss before June, 2015.

THANK YOU once again for all the great gifts that you showered upon me and my colleagues for Christmas.  We are indeed very lucky to have such thoughtful and generous parents.  A very special THANK YOU to my homeroom Mom, Michelle Acosta, and her team of parents who organized the making of the gingerbread houses.  THANK YOU to all our parents who donated food and gifts for our adopted families.

On Monday, the Sixth Graders will prepare for our field trip to The Getty Center, in Los Angeles.  They will be given an introduction to the history and appreciation of art and artists.  Their study of the “History of Art” will continue with me, following our field trip to The Getty Center.

This week in literature, the Sixth Graders will read about “Jason and the Golden Fleece.”  In class, they will focus on analogies, grammar, and writing. This week, they will begin to write a short “Stage Play” with me, in preparation for their next writing assignment, “Write a Stage Play.”

This week in history, the Sixth Graders will finish reading Chapter 4, which concentrates on Ancient Egypt.  In addition to this, they will watch video documentaries about Ancient Egypt, which will bring the history to life for them.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • In your history book, reread sections 1, 2, and 3 of Chapter 4, about Ancient Egypt.
  • Study two history definitions or questions per night, in preparation for the next History Test.
  • Think about your plot/story for your Stage Play.
  • Spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 10 in Wordly Wise for Wed., Jan. 14.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 10 of Wordly Wise for Wed., Jan. 14.

Reminders: 1. The Middle School will have a field trip to the Getty Centre, in Los Angeles, on Tuesday, January 6.  Please bring your permission slip and $5 fee on Monday, January 5, if you haven’t done so already.  The $5 fee is to cover the cost of parking ($15), at The Getty Center.  The Eighth Grade class is covered for drivers, however, the Sixth and Seventh Grade classes still need drivers for this field trip.  If you are available to drive on Tuesday, please contact your homeroom teacher on Monday.  Many, many thanks!  We will depart at 8:00a.m. and return to O.M.M.S. at 5:00p.m.  Each child will need to bring his/her lunch, water, and snacks.  Our “Mass” uniform is required for this field trip.

2.  If you have any questions or concerns about the results of the ITBS Testing, please do not hesitate to contact me and my colleagues, Miss Lida and Ms. Jessica.

3.  On Wednesday, I will send home large envelopes of all the work to date, from the Sixth Graders’ files.  Please sign the envelope, to assure me that you have received the work, and return it to me on Thursday.  MANY THANKS!

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
