A Christmas Carol!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

The time for the performance of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is almost here.  Therefore, there will be rehearsals every day this coming week.  There will be a dress rehearsal on Friday afternoon, so please make sure that your child returns her costume to school on Monday, as my girls took home their costumes to wash them, on Friday.  Some of my boys need pants for the play, as the ones I have were either too big or too long.  Goodwill or Brother Benno’s are good places to buy a cheap pair of pants for the play.  There will be no Wordly Wise homework this coming week, as many of my students do not know their cues and lines, so they need to concentrate and learn them.  If anybody can vodeotape the play, please contact me.  Thank you!♥

I hope the following information, about the play performance, is helpful to you:

  • The play will begin at 6:30p.m., in the St. Francis Hall (formally The McKeon Center).
  • Please bring your child to the hall between 6:00p.m. and 6:15p.m.
  • Your child should arrive in full makeup and in his/her basic costume.
  • All costume accessories will be on the stage and ready for them upon arrival.
  • Please bring a change of clothes, as the costumes must be returned to me after the performance.
  • Makeup for girls: Dark foundation, eye shadow, mascara, and red lipstick.
  • Makeup for boys: Dark foundation and deep pink lipstick.  Makeup is not mandatory for the boys.
  • Girls with long hair: Hair should be pulled up at the sides and long in the back. No hair is to hang in front of the face or to cover the eyes, please.
  • Hot chocolate will be served to the actors and actresses AFTER the play.
  • Please do not allow your child to run around the hall before the play begins, as his/her makeup will run.

Last week in literature, the Sixth Graders continued to read Greek Gods and Heroes.  This week, they will read about “Melampus and Phylacus,” “Europa and Cadmus,” and “Daedalus.”  In addition to this, they will work in their various language arts workbooks, while they are waiting to rehearse their scenes.

Last week in history, the Sixth Graders reviewed Chapter 3 for their History Test, last Thursday.  I am very happy to report they the whole class scored extremely high on the History Test.  I am so proud of them!  Well done, Sixth Graders!

FYI: We are still waiting for a few parents to sign up for Edmodo.  As soon as everybody is on board and signed-up, we will start using Edmodo.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study your cues and lines for A Christmas Carol, on Monday, December 15.♥

Always in our presentation, we must give something which does not exceed the child’s power, and yet, at the same time, calls forth effort.

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
