Thank You!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I trust that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends, and that you will enjoy what remains of this Thanksgiving weekend.  I wish a safe trip home to all our families who will have to brave the heavy holiday traffic on Sunday.

THANK YOU to all our parents who donated food items for our Thanksgiving basket. Many families had a delicious dinner this past holiday because of your generous hearts.  THANK YOU also to all of my Eighth Graders and alumnus, Ximena Osorio, who collected and delivered the Thanksgiving baskets to Social Concerns and to the Military drop zone. They worked together in effective teams and were wonderful.  In addition to this, they made a new record with respect to the time in which they completed the job. Well done!  I am so proud of you all!

THANK YOU to all the students and parents who signed up for Edmodo.  Those who have not yet signed up, please do so, as soon as possible, as the codes that we distributed to you will become invalid, and we will have to start the whole procedure again.  Many thanks!

This coming week in literature, the Eighth Graders will continue to read Night by Elie Wiesel.  In addition to this, they will work in their grammar, punctuation, and comprehension workbooks.  They will also continue to write their novellas.  I will distribute the guidelines for the Career Project on Tuesday, and we will discuss the guidelines in great detail.

This week in history, the Eighth Graders will finish reading The Constitution.  It is heavy reading, but they are troopers!

This week, during our religious studies, the Eighth Graders will explore how the Catholic Church defends the truth, and is strengthened by her councils.  If time permits, they will also read about monasteries in Europe.

R.I.P. ~ Denise Benjamin

A very sad “Goodbye” to Denise Benjamin, mother of O.M.M.S. alumnus, Brooke Benjamin, who died at 12:06a.m. early last Thursday morning, at Tri-City Hospital.  Denise was a devoted mother and parent at O.M.M.S., and she will be missed by all who knew her.  Our love, thoughts, and prayers go out to Brooke, her grandparents, and her relatives.   We are so sorry for your great loss.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 10 in Wordly Wise on Friday, December 5.
  • Study SAT words for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 10 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Rewrites of the Animal Farm paper are due on Friday, December 5.

Books are the bees that carry the quickening pollen from one to another mind.  ~ James Russell Lowell

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
