A Christmas Carol!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I trust that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends, and that you will enjoy what remains of this Thanksgiving weekend.  I wish  a safe trip home to all our families who will have to brave heavy holiday traffic on Sunday.

THANK YOU to all the students and parents who signed up for Edmodo.  Those who have not yet signed up, please do so, as soon as possible, as the codes that we gave to you will become invalid, and we will have to start the whole procedure again.  Many thanks!

Last week, I only had the Sixth Graders on Monday and Tuesday, and many students were absent.  Therefore, we didn’t accomplish as much as I had planned.

This coming week, the Sixth Graders will continue to read from Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Nye.  In addition to this, they will work in their classroom workbooks; journal, grammar, punctuation, and analogies.  This week in grammar, the focus will be a review of “Nouns….Common, Concrete, Proper, Abstract, and Collective.”We will also rehearse A Christmas Carol every day for thirty minutes.

This week in history, the Sixth Graders will review for the  History Test of Chapter 3, which will take place on Thursday, December 4.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  Many thanks!  In addition to this, we will will resume with Chapter 4, which covers the history of Egypt.

Once again, there will be no Wordly Wise homework this week, as the Sixth Graders need to study for the History Test.  They also need to learn their cues and lines for A Christmas Carol.  I want them to feel confident in knowing their cues and lines, so they will enjoy their performance, on Monday evening, December 15.  They will be fitted for their costumes during the week, beginning on Tuesday.  The play will take place on the stage of the St. Francis Hall, at 6:30 p.m.  Your child should be at the center between 6:00p.m. and 6:15p.m. in full costume and makeup.  Girls may wear foundation, eye shadow, mascara, and lipstick.  Boys should wear a little foundation and lipstick, but it is not mandatory.  If you have any questions, please contact me during school hours. Thank you.

R.I.P. ~ Denise Benjamin

A very sad “Goodbye” to Denise Benjamin, mother of O.M.M.S. alumnus, Brooke Benjamin, who died at 12:06a.m. early Last Thursday morning, at Tri-City Hospital.  Denise was a devoted mother and parent at O.M.M.S., and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Our love, thoughts, and prayers go out to Brooke, her grandparents, and her relatives.  We are so sorry for your great loss.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study your notes for the History Test on Thursday, December 4.
  • Study your cues and lines for A Christmas Carol (performance on Monday, December 15).

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
