Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all our parents who accompanied us on our walk to the Canine Companions, and who drove for the field trip to the The Runyon Museum, last Monday.  I truly appreciate your time and participation.  Our students thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits and the hands-on activity.  Congratulations to all our students for being excellent role models.  Well done! I am so proud of you!  THANK YOU to Miss Lida for organizing this great field trip.  THANK YOU to Michelle Acosta for the lovely collage of photos of the field trip, that you gave to each of our Middle School teachers.  You are a GEM!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR O.M.M.S. UNDEFEATED VOLLEYBALL JUNIOR VARSITY and VARSITY TEAMS, and to their coaches, DENISE MARQUEZ and JUD FIDELLOW, and their team moms, NICKI NUGENT and MICHELLE ACOSTA!  WOW!  GO KINGS!  GO CHAMPIONS!  WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!  THANK YOU!

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders commenced their reading of Night by Elie Wiesel, and they appear to be shocked it, as they should.  They finished watching the DVD of Animal Farm on Friday, which they enjoyed.  In addition to this, they are making good progress in their classroom workbooks.  I am happy to report that they all scored high on the Literary Terms Test on Thursday.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  I am so proud of you!

After the Thanksgiving break, we will return to the study of Literary Terms.  In addition to this, my Eighth Graders will be given the guidelines for their next writing assignment, “Career Project.”  They will have to choose three academic careers and write about each of them.  They will have to research the best colleges, tuition, scholarships offered, G.P.A.’s for admission, and room and board.  In addition to this, in class, they will learn how to write a resume, business letters, and fill in a job application.  They will also have to interview three professionals who are working in their three career choices.  They will have to choose one of the three careers which they think suits them best after their research.  Then, they will explore where they think they might want to live, and which career will provide the lifestyle that they foresee for themselves in their futures.  It will be an interesting and enjoyable project for them, I hope.

My Eighth Graders are doing an excellent job on their weekly spelling and vocabulary test, and on the Wordly Wise homework, in general.  I am very pleased with their progress and their high grade scores.  Keep up the great work, Eighth Graders!

This week in history, we will continue to read The Constitution ~ The Judicial Branch.

This week in religion, we will read about how the church relies on the word of God.

Reminders:

  • There is no Wordly Wise homework for Thanksgiving week!
  •  THANK YOU to all the parents who donated to out Thanksgiving baskets.  Some students need to bring in their donations on Monday or Tuesday.   You will be giving the gift of a Thanksgiving dinner to a needy family.  Many thanks!
  • The Interim Reports will be sent out from the office on Tuesday, November 25.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.  ~ John F. Kennedy

Dear Parents, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the gift of your children every day.  They bring joy to my world on a daily basis, and they are a credit to you.  I truly love them! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  ENJOY!  RELAX!  HAVE FUN!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
