Successful School Dance!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Our Middle School was a GRAND success on Friday evening!  All who attended clearly had a blast!  A BIG THANK YOU to Joey Betancourt (Julian’s dad), who was our brilliant D.J.  He played GREAT music, which our students enjoyed and danced to all evening.  He also provided us with an amazing light show which truly created a perfect atmosphere for the dance.  THANK YOU to Veronica Betancourt who assisted our D.J.  THANK YOU to our Student Council members and Jane Morse who worked with me to decorate the St. Francis Hall.  THANK YOU to Ashley Young who lent us two black lights and two disco balls.  THANK YOU to all our parents who generously donated items for the Refreshment Booth.  THANK YOU to Michelle Acosta, Jud Fidellow, and Jane Morse who ran the Refreshment Booth.  THANK YOU to our alumni Diana and Michael Visco who manned the door.  THANK YOU to Michelle Acosta, Joey Betancourt, Jud Fidellow, Lori Fitzpatrick, and Jane Morse who donated gifts for the Raffle.  THANK YOU to Isabella Betancourt who ran the Raffle.  THANK YOU to our chaperones Lisa Caso, Joe Davies, Lori Fitzpatrick, Nicki Nugent, and alumnus, Mason Sette.  THANK YOU to all our parents and students who helped with the clean-up.  A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to our Student Council President and Vice President, Gianna Acosta and E.J. McKinsey who meticulously organized the flyer, music, decorations, donations, and raffle for the dance.  GREAT JOB!  I am so proud of you!  It takes a village to put on a Middle School Dance, but it is well worth it!

Last week in literature, I commenced reading aloud, Night by Elie Wiesel.  Our books are finally in at Barnes and Noble.  Therefore, on Tuesday (field trip on Monday), my Eighth Graders will continue the reading of Night.  There will be a Literary Terms Test on Thursday, November 20.  Please encourage your child to study for it.  Many Thanks!

This week in writing, my Eighth Graders will continue to write their novellas in class, using their laptops.  Due to the preparation for the Middle School Dance, we didn’t finish watching the DVD of Animal Farm, so we will finish it on Friday.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will finish reading The Constitution.  I am happy to report that the majority of the class scored very high on their History Test of Chapter 3.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  Keep up the great work.

This week, our religious studies will encompass The Magisterium and the early Christian Empire.

Reminder: There are two field trips on Monday, November 17.  The first is to Canine Companions, across the street from O.M.M.S., and the second is to a Fossil Museum in Escondido.  Two students still need to turn in their permission slips and the cost of the kit ($15).

A Sad Farewell: A very sad “Farewell” to Dakota Bobadilla, who is moving to San Francisco with his mother, Monique, today.  I wish you both a safe journey, and great success and happiness in your new home, school, and occupation.  You will be greatly missed by all at O.M.M.S.  It has been a privilege and a pleasure to know and love you both.  Please keep in touch with me. ♥♥♥

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Some students need to turn in their papers on Animal Farm, on Monday.
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test, on Thursday, November 20.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • Spelling/vocabulary of SAT words.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 9  of Wordly Wise for Friday.
