Happy Veterans’ Day!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday.   It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  We had a great turnout.  Thank You!

This week in literature, the Eighth Graders will commence the reading of Night by Elie Wiesel.  It is the story of a Jewish man and his son’s journey through several concentration camps, during the Holocaust of World War II.  In addition to this, I will also finish reading Hamlet aloud.  On Friday, we will finish watching the DVD of Animal Farm, which brings the book to life for my students.  My Eighth Graders appear to be enjoying it.  Their next writing assignment “What I Learned By Reading Animal Farm by George Orwell,” is due on Friday, November 14.

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will continue to read The Constitution of the United States.  On Thursday, November 13, they will have a History Test of Chapter 3 of our history book America.  I have already distributed the notes for the test.

This past week in religion, the Eighth Graders finished reading the Ninth  and Tenth Commandments in detail.  This coming week, they will read about how the Church grew, Christian martyrs, and the Council of Jerusalem.

Reminder: Our annual School Dance for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders will take place on Friday, November 14.  It will be held in the St. Francis Hall, from 6:00p.m. to 9:30p.m.  Admission is $5.  In addition to this, each student was asked to donate one item for the Refreshment Stand, for example, cookies, soda, water, etc.  I will need chaperones to guarantee the safety of our students, during the dance.  If you are available to chaperone, please contact me A.S.A.P.  Many thanks!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 3, on Thursday, November 13.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise on Friday, November 14.
  • Spelling/vocabulary of the SAT words.
  • Complete all the exercises of Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise.
  • Animal Farm paper id due on Friday, November 14.

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.
