Happy Veterans’ Day!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  We had a great turnout.  Thank you!

This coming week in literature, my Seventh Graders will commence our reading of Inside the Walls of Troy by Clarence McLaren.  It is about Helen and the Trojan War, and it is told from both the Greek and the Trojan perspectives.  In addition to this, they will take a quiz on Wednesday, based on Hamlet by William Shakespeare, in order to refresh the events of the play.  There is a Literary Terms Test on Monday, November 10, so please encourage your child to study for this test.

This week in writing, the Seventh Graders will continue to learn about writing a screenplay.  Last week, we discussed camera angles, locations, special effects, story boards, casting, and directors.  This week, they will learn about transportation, props, sound/music, lighting, and wardrobe.  In addition to this, we will focus on the script format of a screenplay.  I have copies of the movie scripts Good Will Hunting and The Da Vinci Code for the Seventh Graders’ perusal.

This week in history, we will read Chapter 16 of our history book Medieval and Early Modern Times.  This chapter focuses on the revival of trade and towns in Europe.  Any student who failed the last History Test, may retake it on Wednesday, November 19.

Reminder: Our annual School Dance for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders will take place on Friday evening, November 14, in the St. Francis Hall, from 6:00p.m. to 9:30p.m.  Admission is $5.  In addition to this, each student was asked to donate one item for the Refreshment Stand, for example, a packet of cookies, water, soda, etc.  I will need chaperones to guarantee the safety of our students during the dance.  If you are available to help, please contact me A.S.A.P.  Many thanks!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test on Monday, November 10
  • Study for the History Test retake (Chapter 15) on Wednesday, November 19.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 7 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on the plot of your “Screenplay.”

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.
