Happy Veterans’ Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you about your children’s academic and social progress.  We had a great turnout.  Thank you!

Last week in literature, the Sixth Graders finished reading Skellig by David Almond.  This week, we will discuss the themes, characters, and plot of Skellig.  They will also watch the DVD of Skellig to bring the book to life for them.  Our next book for reading is Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.  I will pick up the book order at Barnes and Noble, this week.

This coming week, the Sixth Graders will continue to learn how to write a formal outline, in preparation for their next writing assignment, “A Plot Analysis /Outline of Skellig by David Almond.”  The outline of Skellig is due on Friday, November 14.  The “Spooky Stories” will be returned for rewrites this coming week.

This week in history, the Sixth Graders will prepare for the next History Test on Thursday, November 27.  I have distributed the notes to my Sixth Graders, so they need to write up the notes and definitions into their history notebooks.  Please encourage your child to study his/her history notes in order to avoid stress.  Thank you.

On Friday, the Sixth Graders will continue their rehearsal of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  We will block the  “Party Scene.” Please encourage your child to learn his/her cues and lines.  Thank you.

Reminder: Our annual School Dance for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders will take place on Friday evening, November 14, in the St. Francis Hall, from 6:00p.m. to 9:30p.m.  Admission is $5.  In addition to this, each student was asked to donate one item towards the Refreshment Stand, for example, a packet of cookies, soda, water, etc.  I will need chaperones to guarantee the safety of our students, during the dance.  If you would like to chaperone, please let me know A.S.A.P.  Many thanks!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 8 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises and CROSSWORD in Lesson 8 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up your history notes into your history notebooks.
  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 3, on Thursday, November 27.
  • Study the cues and lines of A Christmas Carol.

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.
