ITBS Testing!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

The ITBS Testing doesn’t appear to have caused any stress to our Seventh Graders.  One more week of testing and we are finished for another year.

This past week in literature, we commenced the reading of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s epic poem, “The Lady of Shalott,” which ties in nicely with our study of “Medieval” history.  This coming week, I will finish reading Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as we didn’t have time for it, this past week.  The next writing assignment is “Write an Heroic Poem,” based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.  This assignment will be due on Thursday, October 30.  On Thursday last, we started watching Silas Marner by George Elliot.  You could hear a pin drop!

This past week in history, we read most of Chapter 15, which focuses on Medieval Conquests and Crusades.  This coming week, we will finish reading Chapter 15, and prepare for the next History Test on Wednesday, October 29.  In addition to this, I will continue to read aloud from the book Medieval Chronicles, which I bought to enhance our medieval studies.  It is full of great pictures and diagrams that give my Seventh Graders an excellent visual of Medieval Times.  This we will watch a documentary about The Crusades, on the Smart Board.

Reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences are on Monday, October 27, and on Friday, November 7.  Many parents still need to sign up for the conferences.  The sign-up sheets are at the top of the stairs, on the right-hand side.  I look forward to meeting with you soon.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 6 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study the definitions and questions/answers for the History Test.
  • Write an heroic poem based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.
  • Some students need to turn in their outlines of Beowulf.

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
