ITBS Testing Week!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

ITBS Testing will commence on Monday, October 13.  Your teenager will test for one hour each day.  Please ensure that he/she gets plenty of sleep each night before testing, as this will enhance his/her performance.  A tired teenager will not test well.  A nourishing breakfast will help your teenager’s concentration, too.  A hungry teenager will not test well.  Please assure your teenager that these tests are part of the educational system, and there is no need to stress over them, but he/she should do one’s best.

The Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, October 27, and on Friday, November 7.  You should have received a flyer about them today.  The “Sign-Up” sheets will be at the top of the stairs, on the right hand side, on Monday, October 13.  The conferences will be held in Room 218.  We look forward to meeting with you.

This week in literature, we will finish reading Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will continue to analyze and discuss the characters, themes, symbols, etc. for another week.  Our next book is Night by Elie Wiesel.  It is the journey of a son and his father through the deadly concentration camps in Europe, during the Holocaust.  Today, we watched the last episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and everyone was delighted with the happy ending, but sad to part with Mr. Darcy and the Bennett family, whom they have grown to love.

This past week in history, my Eighth Graders read The Declaration of Independence.  They are in the process of writing twenty grievances of the colonists, as declared in The Declaration of Independence.  This week in history, we will prepare for the next History Test (Chapter 2).  The test is scheduled for Thursday, October 16.  Please encourage your child to study for this test. Many thanks!

This week in religion, the Eighth Graders will finish their study of The Ten Commandments.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • History notes will be inspected in the notebooks on Monday, October 13.
  • Episode V of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 13.
  • Study for the History Test on Thursday, October 16.
  • Summary of Episode VI of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 20.

Education is when you read the fine print.  Experience is what you get, if you don’t.  ~ Pete Seeger

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
