ITBS Testing Week!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

ITBS Testing will commence on Monday, October 13.  Your child will test for one hour each day.  Please ensure that he/she gets plenty of sleep each night before testing, as this will enhance his/her performance.  A tired child will not test well.  A good breakfast will help your child’s concentration, too.  A hungry child will not test well.  Please assure your child that these tests are just part of the educational system, and  there is no need to worry, but he/she should try to do one’s best.

The Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, October 27, and on Friday, November 7.  You should have received a flyer about them today.  The “Sign-Up” sheets will be at the top of the stairs, on the right hand side, on Monday, October 13 The conferences will be held in Room 218.  We look forward to meeting with you.

This past week, our Smart Board was out of order, as the new projectors were installed.  Therefore, we couldn’t start our poetry unit as planned.  Instead, I read aloud the first part of Hamlet by Wiliam Shakespeare.  This week in literature, I will finish reading Hamlet aloud, and then, we  will start reading and analyzing Alfred Lord Tennyson’s epic poem “The Lady of Shalott.”  This poem ties in very nicely with our study of medieval history.

The “Legend/Myth” rewrites are due on Thursday, October 16.  The outlines of Beowulf are also due on Thursday.  The next writing assignment will be to write an “Heroic Poem” based on either of the characters of Beowulf, Grendel, or She.  I will distribute the guidelines to my Seventh Graders this week.

I am thrilled to report that almost the whole class scored A+’s/A’s on the History Test this past week.  I am so proud of them!  Well done, Seventh Graders! This week, we will read Chapter 15 of the history book, which deals with Medieval Conquests and the Crusades.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 5 in Wordly Wise on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 5 of Wordly Wise.
  • Rewrites of “Legends/Myths” are due on Thursday.
  • Formal outlines of Beowulf are due on Thursday.
  • Write up the definitions and questions/answers in the history notebook.

Praise does wonders for our sense of hearing. ~ Arnold H. Glasgow

Enjoy your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
