Happy St. Francis’ Day!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

HAPPY ST. FRANCIS’ DAY!  This morning, it was lovely to see so many of our students with their precious pets, at our annual St. Francis’ Day celebration.  THANK YOU very much to all the parents who donated to our St. Francis’ Day basket. I truly appreciate your generosity.  A special THANK YOU again to Michelle Acosta, who took all the items and put them together to create a beautiful basket for the auction today.  THANK YOU also to the PTG Board and to all the parents who were involved in making this celebration a very special day for all at OMMS.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who were elected to sit on the Student Council, especially, Gianna Acosta (President), and Elise McKinsey, (Vice President).  I look forward to working with you all.

This coming week, we will continue to read Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will watch Animal Farm on DVD at the end of our study.  The Eighth Graders continue to enjoy Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.  There is only one more episodes left in the series.

This week, we will read The Declaration of Independence, and finish Chapter 2 in history, which focuses on independence and the new nation.

This past week, during our Religion class, we examined the first through the fourth Commandments. This week, we will focus on the fifth through the tenth Commandments.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Rewrite of Episode III of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 6.
  • Spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 5 in Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 5 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write a summary of Episode IV of Pride and Prejudice.
  • Write up all the history definitions into the history notebook.

Children are remarkable for their intelligence and ardor, for their curiosity, their intolerance of shams, and the clarity and ruthlessness of their vision.  ~ Aldous Huxley

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead.
