Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students who ran for positions on the Student Council last Monday.  Your speeches were great!  I am so proud of you!  Well done!  The results of the election will be announced on Monday, September 29, during the school assembly in the Serra Center, at 1:45 p.m.

THANK YOU to all the parents who donated to our St. Francis Day basket, “Oktober Fest.” THANK YOU also to our homeroom Mom, Michelle Acosta, for putting a BEAUTIFUL BASKET together for us.

This coming week, we will continue our reading of Animal Farm by George Orwell.   In addition to this, we will continue our classroom work regarding journal writing and grammar.  Last week, I added another workbook to our daily classroom work.  It is titled Basic Life Skills.

I am happy to report that the first History Test was a great success.  The majority of the class scored A+’s, and the other grades were high, too.  YAHOO!  Great job, Eighth Graders!  This week, we will finish reading Chapter 2 of the history book, which includes The Declaration of Independence.

Last week, during religious studies, we commenced our study of The Ten Commandments, and will cover each Commandment in detail.  This week, we will read about and discuss Commandment 1 through Commandment 4.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Wordly Wise spelling and homework for Lesson 3 will take place on Monday.
  • Rewrites of the summaries of Episode II of Pride and Prejudice are due on Monday.
  • Write a summary of Episode IV of Pride and Prejudice for Friday.
  • Study spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 4 in Wordly Wise and the five SAT words.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 4 of Wordly Wise.

It is not so much what is poured into the student, but what is planted, that really counts.  ~ E.C. McKenzie

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!
