Another Great Week!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

Another great week with your children!  This Sixth Grade class is a very strong group academically.   I am thrilled to inform you that they scored extremely high (A/A+’s) on their spelling and vocabulary test, on Wednesday.  I am so proud of them!  Keep up the GREAT work, Sixth Graders!

This past week, we continued to read Skellig by David Almond, which my students are enjoying.  In addition to this, they wrote (and will continue to write) about themselves in their journals, i.e. “All About Me!”  This past week, I read five fables aloud.  This coming week, I will continue to read fables (another twenty) to them, in preparation for their first writing assignment, Write a Fable, which will be due on Wednesday, September 24.   I will distribute the guidelines for this assignment on Monday, September 15.  Then, I will discuss it in great detail with my students.

In Chapter 1 of our history book, Ancient Civilizations, we read about early man as hunters and gatherers.  Then, we read about the different kinds of humanoids or cave men, which they enjoyed very much.  The first history test will be assigned upon completion of this chapter on Tuesday.  Then, your children will have a week to study the definitions and questions for the test.  This past week, your children learned about taking notes in their history notebooks for their history test.  They completed the first two sections, and they did a GRAND JOB!  They will finish Section 3, on Monday.

This past week, in our religious studies, the Sixth Graders learned about the divisions and books of The Bible.  They also read a story about the “Creation of the World.”

The Sixth Graders had a blast during their first drama class today (Friday).  They learned about expressing different emotions and gestures, using their faces, hands, and legs.  They also made up skits which were hilarious!  I divided them into two teams for the skits, and each team received an A+.  They will receive their scripts for A Christmas Carol during their next drama class, on Friday, September 26.

Reminder: There is a P.T.G. General Meeting in the Serra Center, on Wednesday, September 17, at 6:30p.m.  We look forward to seeing you there.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling and vocabulary of Lesson 2 in Wordly Wise for Wednesday, September 17.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 2 of Wordly Wise for Wednesday.
  • Study the definitions words in the history notebooks for Chapter 1 of Ancient Civilizations, in preparation for the test.  This will be assigned on Tuesday, September 16.

All our dreams come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a GRAND week ahead.
