Spirit Week!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I trust that you are all safe and sound from the fires, and that none of you had to be evacuated from your homes.  I hope that you enjoyed your wee break from school, and are ready to return to your work routine on Monday.  We still have much to accomplish before the end of the school year.

THANK YOU to all the parents who showered us with delicious goodies and gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week.  I am truly thankful to you for  your kind, thoughtful, and generous hearts.  We, teachers at O.M.M.S., are very lucky to have such great parents at our school!

This week in literature, my Eighth Graders will finish reading The Odyssey.  Then, they will discuss its themes, characterization, plot, etc.  In addition to this, they will learn the Cornell System of Note-Taking.  Last week’s SAT Test is rescheduled for Monday, May 19.  Please remind your teenager to study for it.  Many thanks!

This week in history, my Eighth Graders will prepare for the last History Test of the school year, which is scheduled for Friday, May 30.  In addition to this, they will read Chapter 9, which focuses on The Westward Expansion, 1820-1860.

This week in religion class, my Eighth Graders will read about the Church evangelizing the world, in their books, We Live Our Faith.

  • Spirit Day will take place as planned on Friday, May 23.  All parents are welcome to attend this exciting and fun event.
  • This week, Nicki Nugent will be purchasing our tickets for Disneyland.  Therefore, please send a check for $75, for your ticket, made payable to Nicki Nugent.  If two members of your family will be going to Disneyland, then, the cost is $150, please.  Many thanks!
  • The Crowning of Mary has been deferred until further notice.  THANK YOU, PATTY FAIRLIE, for arranging for the flowers for this event.
  • Speech Night is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4.  Please mark your calendars.  Thank you!

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the SAT spelling/ vocabulary test on Monday, May 19.
  • Four Eighth Graders need to turn in their “late” speeches, on Monday, May 19.
  • SAT spelling/vocabulary for Thursday, May 22.
  • Complete the next five pages in Rules of the Game, for Thursday, May 22.
