Happy Martin Luther King’s Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all will enjoy this three-day weekend, in honor of the great Martin Luther King Jr.

This week in literature, the Sixth Graders will continue to read Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves, which will include stories about: “Perseus,”  “The Hunt of the Calydonian Bear,” and ” The Beef-Eating Contest.”  This past week in “Literature on DVD,” the Sixth Graders started to watch Jason and the Argonauts, which they enjoyed immensely.  In addition to this, together, we wrote the first scene of a stage play in class.  It is about the danger of drug use in high school.  The title is Just Say, No!  This coming week, we will write the next scene or perhaps two, if time permits, as it is very time consuming.  Despite this, the Sixth Graders appear to be enjoying the process.

This past week in history, we read the first section of Chapter 5, which focused on Judaism.  This week, we will read section 2, which encompasses the beliefs of Judaism.  In addition to this, we will review for the History Test (Part 1 – Sections 1-3) of Chapter 4, which will be given on Thursday.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  Many thanks!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 14 in Wordly Wise for Wednesday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 14 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study for the History Test (Sections 1-3) of Chapter 4 for Thursday.

Reminders:

The Progress Reports will be mailed from the office on Friday, January 24.

The Middle School Dance which was scheduled for Friday, January 24, has been rescheduled for Friday, March 28.  I will need about ten chaperones to help.  If you need “parent hours” and will be available to help on that date, please contact me. Thank you.

Catholic Schools’ Week begins on Sunday, January 26, with Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Serra Center.  We hope that you will join us for the celebration.

All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance, and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.  ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Have fun this weekend and have a grand week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
