Happy New Year!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Happy New Year!  I hope that this new year will bring you all much love, happiness, smiles, laughter, success, good health, and lots of surprises on a daily basis.  I trust that you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families.  Your children returned to school happy and rested. They definitely enjoyed their Christmas break, as per “Share Time,” last Monday.  We have just begun a new year in the education of your children.  We have a lot of new and exciting work to study, learn, research, ponder, explore, and discuss before June, 2014.

THANK YOU once again for all the great gifts that you showered upon me and my co-workers for Christmas.  We are indeed blessed to have such thoughtful and generous parents.  THANK YOU also for your generous donations to our adopted family.  You made their Christmas.  A very special THANK YOU to my homeroom Mom, Cheri Bell, and to Mary Rudick and her team of parents who helped with the gingerbread houses.

This past week in literature, the Seventh Graders continued to read Inside the Walls of Troy by Clemence McLaren.  In addition to this, they worked in their grammar and comprehension workbooks.  This week, we will focus on literature, literary terms, journal writing, and their next writing assignment, “Design a Magazine.”  In Literature on DVD, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, we watched most of the court case, which my students enjoyed.

This past week in history, the Seventh Graders finished reading Chapter 18, which focused on The Reformation.  This week, they will prepare for the next History Test, which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  In addition to this, they will start Chapter 19 of their history book, which concentrates on The Age of Exploration.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 15 in Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 15 of Wordly Wise for Thursday.
  • Study for your History Test on Wednesday, January 22.
  • Work on your “Magazine Project,” which is due on Friday, February 7.

Reminder: If you have any questions or concerns regarding the results of the ITBS Testing, please do not hesitate to contact me and my co-workers, Ms. Lida and Ms. Lisa.

On Wednesday, I will send home large envelopes of all the work to date, from the Seventh Graders’ files.  Please sign the envelope, to assure me that you have received the work, and return the empty envelope to me on Thursday.  MANY THANKS!

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead.
