Willy Wonka Play!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

We will be taking our first field trip on Wednesday, November 20, to see the play Willy Wonka at the Star Theater, in Oceanside.  Jenna and Lauren Bell have parts in this show, so we are truly looking forward to seeing and supporting their performances.  The play begins at 9:00A.M., so we intend to depart from O.M.M.S. at 8:15A.M.  Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time on Wednesday.  Many thanks!

This week in literature, the Sixth Graders will continue to read Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.  The first Literary Terms Test (Part 1) will take place on Monday, November 18.  There will be nine definitions on the test, so please encourage your child to study for it.  Thank you.  This week, rehearsals for A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens will become part of our daily classroom routine.  Each day, except Wednesday, we will spend thirty minutes rehearsing for the play.

The Sixth Graders are still in the process of learning to write a formal outline, and we will continue that process this week.  Their formal outline of Skellig will be due on Wednesday, December 4.

I am very happy to report that the majority of the Sixth Graders scored exceptionally high on their third History Test last Thursday.  Most of the scores were A+’s and a few B+’s/B’s.  I am so proud of my Sixth Graders!  They are working extremely hard, and it’s only November.  Keep up the great work, Sixth Graders!  This week in history, we will continue to read about ancient Egypt.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the Literary Terms Test on Monday, November 18.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 10 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 10 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up the history definitions into your notebook, from Chapter 4 of  Ancient Civilizations.
  • Study your cues and lines in your script A Christmas Carol.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
