Happy Veterans’ Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who were involved in decorating the McKeon Center for the Sock Hop.  You did an outstanding job!  THANK YOU to all the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade parents and students who baked cakes for the Cake Walk at the Sock Hop.  The Sock Hop was a GRAND success, and everyone who attended had a great time.

Last week in literature, the Sixth Graders were introduced to Literary Terms.  They learned the definitions of eighteen terms.  However, for the first test, I am going to divide it into two parts.  Part 1 will be given on Monday, November 18, and Part 2 will be given on Monday, November 25.  There will be nine Literary Terms on each test, so please encourage your child to study them.  Thank you.  This week, we will continue to read Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves.

This coming week, the Sixth Graders will learn how to write a formal outline, in preparation for their next writing assignment, “A Plot Analysis /Outline of Skellig by David Almond.”  I distributed the guidelines on Friday, and we will study and discuss them in detail in class.

This week in history, the Sixth Graders will prepare for the History Test on Thursday, November 14.  Please encourage your child to study his/her history notes in order to avoid stress.  Thank you.  In addition to test preparation, we will start reading Chapter 4 of the history book Ancient Civilizations, which focuses on ancient Egypt.

On Friday, the Sixth Graders had their first formal rehearsal of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  We blocked the first three scenes, and they did a GREAT job!  Please encourage your child to learn his/her cues and lines.  Thank you.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 9 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 3, on Thursday, November 14.
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test on Monday, November18.
  • Study the cues and lines of A Christmas Carol.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
