Happy Halloween!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Thankfully, the ITBS Testing is finished, and the Seventh Graders have survived in tact.  Well done, Seventh Graders!

I am happy to report that our next book for reading, Inside the Walls of Troy by Clarence McLaren is in at Barnes and Noble, and I will pick it up tomorrow (Sunday).   We will commence reading it on Tuesday, October 29.  In addition to this, we will return to Literary Terms this coming week, as we continue our daily work in the classroom workbooks.

I am disappointed to report that the Seventh Graders scored very poorly on their History Test last Wednesday.  Only one student scored high on the test.  I have told my students that they need to study five definitions and one section of questions and answers at a time, rather than try to squeeze in everything into two nights of study before the test…This is cramming; it is not learning…and it is very stressful for your child.  Please encourage your child to follow my directions in their studies.  Thank you!  This week in history, we will read Chapter 17, which focuses on Early Modern Europe.  In addition to this, we will prepare for the next History Test (Chapter 16), and I will continue to read Medieval Chronicles, as an inspiration for their future history project.

Reminder: The Parent/Teacher conferences are on Monday, October 28.  I look forward to meeting with you then.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 8 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises and the CROSSWORD in Lesson 8 of Wordly Wise.
  • Rewrites of the Analysis/Outlines of Beowulf are due on Thursday.
  • Write up the history definitions from Chapter 16 into your history notebook.

Children have more need of models than of critics.  ~ Joseph Joubert

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
