ITBS Testing!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

The ITBS Testing doesn’t appear to have caused any stress to our Seventh Graders.  One more week of testing and we are finished for another year.

This past week in literature, we finished reading and analyzing Tennyson’s epic poem, “The Lady of Shalott.”  I am happy to report that the Seventh Graders truly enjoyed this poem.  Then, we watched a musical and visual rendition of it by Lorena McKevitt, on the Smart Board, which brought the poem to life.  This coming week, I will finish reading aloud the book, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  The next writing assignment is “Write an Heroic Poem,” based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.

This past week in history, we finished reading Chapter 16, which focuses on the changing medieval world.  This coming week, we will prepare for the History Test on Wednesday, October 23.  In addition to this, I will continue to read aloud from the book Medieval Chronicles, which I bought to enhance our medieval studies.  It is full of great pictures and diagrams that give my Seventh Graders an excellent visual of Medieval Times.

Reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences are on Monday, October 28, and on Friday, November 1.  I look forward to meeting with you then.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 7 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 7 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study the definitions and questions/answers for the History Test.
  • Do rewrites of the Analysis/Outlines of Beowulf.
  • Write an heroic poem based on Beowulf, Grendel, or She.

Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.  ~ John Dewey

Have a great weekend and a grand week ahead!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
