ITBS Testing Week!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents  and Students,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended our St. Francis/Horse Drop Picnic last Saturday.  It was a grand success!  A special THANK YOU to the Bugawan, Elder, Fidellow, McKinsey, Osorio, and Shebest families.  We truly appreciate your support for O.M.M.S.  It was a beautiful sunny day, and all present appeared to be enjoying themselves.  Such a variety of stunning pets!

The Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, October 28, and on Friday, November 1, in Room 218.  You should have received a flyer about them this past week.  The “Sign-Up” sheets will be at the top of the stairs, on the right hand side, on Monday.  THANK YOU to those parents who have signed-up already.  We look forward to meeting with you.

The ITBS testing will commence on Monday, October 14, and continue until October 2. The testing will last for one hour each day.  Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time.  He/she will need a nourishing breakfast every morning and plenty of sleep each night, in order to perform well on these tests.  A hungry or tired student will find it hard to focus on the test.

This week in literature, we will definitely finish Animal Farm by George Orwell.  We will continue to analyze and discuss the characters etc. for another week.  Our next book is Night by Elie Wiesel.  It is the journey of a son and his father through the deadly concentration camps in Europe, during the Holocaust.  On Friday, we will watch the last episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

This week in history, we will prepare for the next History Test (Chapter2).  The test is scheduled for Monday, October 21.  Please encourage your child to study for this test. Many thanks!  In addition to this, we will commence the reading of The Declaration of Independence.

This past week, we finished the review of The Ten Commandments and the Great Commandment.  Now, our book goes into each Commandment in great detail, therefore, this week, we will only cover Commandment I to III, due to the time constraints of the ITBS testing.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • History notes will be inspected in the notebooks on Monday, October 14.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 6 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 6 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study for the History Test on Monday, October 21.
  • Summary of Episode V of Pride and Prejudice is due on Monday, October 21.

Education is when you read the fine print.  Experience is what you get, if you don’t.  ~ Pete Seeger

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a grand week ahead!
