Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

Congratulations to all the students who ran for the Student Council last Monday.  Your speeches were great!  I am so proud of you!  Well done!  The results of the election will be announced on Monday, September 30, during the school assembly at 10:00a.m. in the Serra Center.

This past week, the Seventh Graders finished reading Beowulf by Robert Nye.  This week, we will analyze and have discussions about our hero, Beowulf, and the monsters, Grendel and She.  The next writing assignment is to write an outline of Beowulf.  Your child will receive an outline this week and will have to type his /her copy of it in a different font, in order to further learn the format of a formal outline.  I look forward to reading the “Myths and Legends” homework that my Seventh Graders turned in to me, this past week.  The next book for reading will be Inside the Walls of Troy by Clarence McLaren.  It has been ordered from Barnes and Noble.

The first History Test will take place on Wednesday, October 2.  Please encourage your child to study the definitions and answers to the  questions for this test.  This week in history, we will finish reading Chapter 2, which focuses on kings and nobles, and the religious crusades of the Middle Ages.  In order to enhance our study of the Middle Ages, I have started to read aloud Merlin, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  I will continue this reading this week.  My Seventh Graders love it!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 4 in Wordly Wise on Thursday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 4 of Wordly Wise.
  • Study for the History Test on Wednesday, October 2.

One must learn by doing the thing, for though you think you know it, you have no certainty until you try.  ~ Aristotle

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!
