A Great Start!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

Thank you to all who attended our school assembly last Monday.  It was lovely to see so much support for our Eighth Graders, the senior role models for O.M.M.S.  Congratulations to all my Eighth Graders who led our school in the Peace Assembly last Wednesday.  You did a GREAT JOB!  I am very proud of  you!

We are off to a great start…I am happy to report that all the Eighth Graders scored extremely high on their spelling/vocabulary test on Friday.  Keep up the great work!

This past week, we continued to read Animal Farm by George Orwell.  In addition to this, the Eighth Graders began work in their “Life Skills” and grammar workbooks.  They also watched the first episode of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which the majority of the class enjoyed.

We also began our reading of Chapter 1 of the history book America, which focuses on the roots of democratic government, the age of exploration, commerce and the colonies, and the thirteen English colonies.

During our religious studies, we read about and discussed free will, sin, and character from a Catholic standpoint.

Reminders: Applications for the Student Council will be available on Monday September 16, and will be due on Friday, September 20.  The Campaign Week will commence on Monday, September 23, and end on Friday, September 27.  Speeches will be given on the Monday and voting will take place on the Friday of Campaign Week.  All parents are invited to attend the assembly to kick off Campaign Week, which will be held in the McKeon Center.

Cheri Bell has agreed to be our Homeroom Mom.  Thank you, Cheri!  I look forward to working with you.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 2 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 2 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up and study the history definitions from Chapter 1 of America.
  • Write a summary of Episode 1 of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.
