Welcome Back to School 8th Graders!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Orientation Night last Tuesday evening.  It was lovely to see and chat with you all again.  This  year, your child is a role model and will be a graduate of our school.  I am happy to report that my Eighth Grade class have completed a GRAND first week of school, and I know that they will be great examples of excellence for their peers.  They appear to be happy to have reached this milestone in their education.  I trust that they will remain enthusiastic and focused on their academics for the rest of the school year.

This past week, we started the first chapter in our religion book Living Our Faith (the We Believe series by Sadlier).  In addition to this, we commenced the reading of Animal Farm by George Orwell, and all my students appear to be enjoying it very much.  It is a fairy tale and an allegory about the Russian Revolution (1917).

This coming week, my Eighth Graders will work in their new grammar and “Life Skills” workbooks.  Social Studies will commence on Monday, September 9.

Reminder: There will be a school assembly on Monday, September 9, in the Serra Center at 10:00a.m.  During the assembly, our Eighth Grade students will be recognized as the seniors and mentors of O.M.M.S.  All parents are welcome to attend.  I look forward to a very positive and productive school year with your children.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the spelling and vocabulary test of Lesson 1 on Friday.
  • Read several chapters of a book of choice.  Please remember that reading is food for the brain.

A teacher never stops striking the heartstrings of a student’s heart until the harmonies of knowledge blend with the melody of faith to perform the symphony of understanding.

Have a great weekend and a GRAND week ahead!

Cheers,

Miss Susan
