Welcome Back to School 6th Graders!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

Welcome to my blog!  Thank you to all the parents who attended Orientation Night last Tuesday evening.  It was lovely to meet and chat with you.  Your children appear to have enjoyed their first week back to school, although, it was too short and moved too fast.  My Sixth Graders are all very sweet and attentive, and I trust that they will work hard, learn much, and enjoy this new school year very much.

This past week, the Sixth Graders began their reading of Skellig by David Almond, and it was obvious that they were enjoying it.  Yahoo!  This week in class, each day, I will read many of Aesop’s fables aloud, in preparation for their first writing assignment, Write a Fable.  This way, they will truly grasp the concept and format for writing a fable.  In addition to this, my students have started their journal writing, and have worked on Lesson 1 in their Wordly Wise workbook under my supervision.  They will complete Lesson 1 in class this week, and they will start work in their grammar workbook.

We will commence Social Studies on Monday, September 9.  I look forward to a very positive and productive school year with your children.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Study for the spelling and vocabulary test on Wednesday, September 11.
  • Read several chapters of a book of choice, as reading is food for the brain.

A child develops through personal effort and engagement.

Have a GRAND week ahead!

Cheers,
