Thank You, Parents and Grandparents!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

A big THANK YOU to all our parents and grandparents who attended our Maria Montessori/Shadow Day on Friday.  It was lovely to see such great support for your child.  I know that your child was happy and proud to have you there.

This week, in literature, we will continue to read Shakespeare’s The Tempest.  Thank you to all my Sixth Graders who turned in your illustrated “Children’s Book”  You did a GREAT JOB!  The remainder of the children’s books are due on Wednesday, April 24.  This week, we will return to the Literary Terms list, and there will be a test on Tuesday, May 7.  I have told my students that the best way to study for these tests is to study four or five terms each night, so please encourage this method, as it works.  Many thanks!

The end of the school year is looming on the horizon, so my Sixth Graders will be very busy in class finishing their  grammar, punctuation, outlining, note-taking, analogies, and Greek and Latin (Book A) workbooks.

Only 50% of the Sixth Graders scored high on last Monday’s  History Test.  Well done to those who studied for it!  I know  there is excitement in the air because of Sixth Grade Camp, however, there is a History Test of Chapter 9, on Thursday, April 25.  Under normal circumstances, this test would be assigned for the first week in May, but my Sixth Graders will be at Camp Marston.  Therefore, the test must be given this week, in order to complete the history curriculum.  Please encourage your child to study for it, and I will focus on it in class.  This week, we will watch a video of India’s Empires as an enhancement to our recent study.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Two pages of cursive per night.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lessons 3 and 4 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete Echo and Narcissus in the Myth and Legends workbook.
  • The illustrated “Children’s Book” are due on Wednesday, April 24.
  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 9 for Thursday, April 25.
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test coming up on May 7.

Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep within him that light which is called intelligence.  ~ Maria Montessori

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.

Cheers,

Miss Susan
