Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

A big THANK YOU to our parents who attended our Maria Montessori/Shadow Day on Friday.  It was lovely to see your support for your child.  I know that your child was happy and proud to have you there.

This week in literature, we will continue our reading of Night by Elie Wiesel.  In addition to this, we will watch Parts 5 and 6 of the Oprah special with Elie Wiesel at Auschwitz Concentration Camp, which truly brings to life the horror of the Holocaust.  We will also continue to read and analyze the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe.  There is a Literary Terms Test on Thursday, April 25.  Please encourage your child to study for it.  Many thanks!

Most of the Eighth Graders scored very high on their History Test of definitions concerning The Constitution.  Well done, Eighth Graders!  I am so proud of you!  There is a more detailed History Test of The Constitution on Monday, April 22.  Please encourage your child to study for it.  Many thanks!  This week in history, we will read about the first political parties in the United States of America.

This week, Family Life will focus on the standpoint of the Catholic Church with respect to murder, abortion, euthanasia, suicide, war, capital punishment, and poverty, and discrimination.  Heavy topics!

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Two pages of cursive per night.
  • Study for the History Test on Monday, April 22.
  • Study for the Literary Terms Test on Thursday, April 25.
  • Spelling/vocabulary review test of Lessons 7 and 8 in Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the next five pages of The Odyssey workbook.
  • Some students still need to turn in their Heroic Poems.

Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep within him that light which is called intelligence.  ~ Maria Montessori

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!
