Maria Montessori/Shadow Day!

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

This past week, the Sixth Graders settled in nicely to their work routine.  Thank you to all the parents who signed and returned the large envelopes which contained the results of all the tests and corrected work of your children.  The classroom workbooks will be sent home in June.

I am very happy to report that all the Sixth Graders turned in their Children’s Book Projects on time.  They did a great job in writing their books and I am very proud of them!  All of their books have been corrected and graded; 50% of the them have already been returned to the students, and the other 50% will receive their books on Monday.   The rewrite due date is Thursday, April 18.

In literature this week, we will continue to read The Tempest by William Shakespeare.  This past week, we read a short biography of the life of Lewis Carroll, and my Sixth Graders were quite surprised to learn that Lewis Carroll worked as a professor of mathematics during the day.  This week, we will read more of his poetry.  This past week, your child received a new vocabulary book which deals with English words that are derivatives of Greek and Latin.  This work will be done in class.

There is a History Test of Chapter 8 on Monday, April 15.  Please encourage your child to study his/her history notes. Many thanks!  This week in history, we will focus on the notes for the History Test of Chapter 9; India’s Empires and Achievements.  History Tests will be more frequent for the remainder of the school year, in order to complete the curriculum.

Reminder:  Maria Montessori/Shadow Day is on Friday, April 19.  I am looking forward to seeing you then, if possible.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 8, on Monday, April 15.
  • Study for the Review Spelling Test of Lessons 1 and 2 in Wordly Wise (Wednesday).
  • Complete the first story of the new comprehension workbook for Wednesday.
  • Turn in the rewrite of your Children’s Book on Thursday.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
