Maria Montessori/Shadow Day!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Students,

This past week, the Seventh Graders settled back nicely into their work routines.  Thank you to all the parents who signed and returned the large envelopes, which contained the results of all the tests and some corrected work of your children.  The classroom workbooks will be sent home in June.

This week in literature, the Seventh Graders will continue to read The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, which they are enjoying immensely.  This past week, I read aloud “The Happy Prince” by Oscar Wilde, so this week, we will discuss its theme etc.  I am very happy to report that almost all of the Seventh Graders scored extremely high (A/A+) on their Literary Terms Test on Friday.  Keep up the great work, Seventh Graders!  This past week, your child received a new vocabulary book, which deals with English words that are derivatives of Greek and Latin.  This work will be done in class.

On Friday last, we had our first drama class for A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare.  We read part of the script, then, I showed a video of part of the play by one of my former classes.  Then, my Seventh Graders wrote down three of their choices for parts in the play.  Unfortunately, many of the girls want the same parts, therefore, I will have auditions this coming week for the female parts.  Please encourage your child to be happy with his/her part, as all the parts are important and enjoyable.

There is a History Test of Chapter 9 on Tuesday, April 16. Please encourage your child to study his/her history notes.  Many thanks!  This week in history, we will focus on the notes for the History Test of Chapter 10; China’s Golden Age.  There will be more frequent History Tests for the remainder of the school year, in order to complete the curriculum.

Reminder: Maria Montessori/Shadow Day is on Friday, April 19.  I am looking forward to seeing you then, if possible.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Two pages of cursive per night.
  • Study for the Review Test of Lessons 5 and 6 in Wordly Wise, on Thursday.
  • Complete one story in the Greek Mythology workbook for Thursday.
  • Heroic Poem based on The Trojan War is due on Thursday.

A room without books is like a body without a soul.  ~ Cicero

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
