WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter celebration, and that you are enjoying the last days of our spring break.  Parents, you should have received the Interim Reports by now, so, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Congratulations to all my Eighth Graders on their EXCELLENT performance of The Passion on Good Friday.  I am very proud of you!  You were FABULOUS!

This week in literature, we will resume reading Night by Elie Wiesel.  In addition to this, we will examine the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe.  The cursive writing assignment will also resume on Monday night (two pages per night).

The next review test of spelling/vocabulary will take place on Friday, April 12.  Please encourage your child to study for it.  Many thanks!  In addition to this, we will continue our vocabulary study with the SAT words and a Greek and Roman vocabulary book.  The Eighth Graders have been working in a workbook in class titled The Odyssey.  This workbook will go home as homework on Friday, as I need more class time to finish our curriculum.

This week in history, we will finish reading The Amendments and prepare for the next History Test ~ The Constitution.  Then, we will commence the reading of Chapter 8, which is a continuation of the history of American Government.

Family Life will resume on Monday morning.

Reminders: 1. Maria Montessori/Shadow Day is scheduled for Friday, April 19.  Please attend, if possible, as it will mean a lot to your child.  2. I will be sending home the work from your child’s file on Monday, as the filing cabinet is full.  Please sign the envelope and return it to me, as an assurance that you have received it.  Thank you!

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Some students need to turn in their speeches on Monday, April 8.  They are past the due date!
  • Two pages of cursive per night, Monday through Friday.
  • Study for the review spelling/vocabulary test on Friday, April 12.
  • Study the history notes (will be distributed this week), for the History Test on Thursday, April 18.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined.  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Enjoy the rest of your spring break and have a GRAND week ahead.  I look forward to seeing my “Sweethearts” on Monday.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
