Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter celebration, and that you are enjoying the spring break.  Parents, you should have received the Interim Reports by now, so, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Sixth Graders have commenced reading Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and they appear to be enjoying it, thus far.  This coming week, we will continue reading and translating The Tempest.  In addition to this, we will explore more poetry by Lewis Carroll.  The cursive writing assignment (two pages per night), will resume on Monday night.

The “Children’s Book” project is due on April 10.  The Review Spelling/Vocabulary Test of Lessons 1 and 2 in Wordly Wise, will take place on Wednesday, April 17.  I mistakenly assigned it for April 10, in my last blog…Oops! Sorry!  We will also continue our vocabulary study with Greek and Roman root words.  A new comprehension workbook will be sent home this week, which is based on Greek mythology.  One story per week is to be completed in this workbook, please.  The first story is due on Wednesday, April 17.

This week in history, we will prepare for the History Test of Chapter 8, which will take place on Monday, April 15.  Please encourage your child to study for this test.  Many thanks!  In addition to preparing for the test of Chapter 8, we will finish reading Chapter 9 of the history book, which focuses on India’s Empires.

Reminder: 1. Maria Montessori/Shadow Day is on Friday, April 19.  I look forward to seeing you then, if possible, as it will mean a lot to your child.  2. I will be sending home the work from my students’ files on Monday, as the filing cabinet is full.  Please sign the envelope and return it to me, as an assurance that you have received it.  Many thanks!

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Two pages of cursive per night, beginning on Monday.
  • The “Children’s Book” project is due on Wednesday, April 10.
  • Study the history notes for the test on Monday, April 15.
  • Study for the Review Test of Lessons 1 and 2, for Wednesday, April 17.
  • Complete the first story in the Greek mythology workbook for April 17.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined.

~ Henry David Thoreau

Enjoy the rest of your Easter vacation and have a GRAND week ahead.  I look forward to seeing my “Honey-bunnies” on Monday.

Miss Susan
