Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

A heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to all the Middle School students, for the wonderful inventions they shared and explained in great detail, last Thursday night at the Science Invention/Art Fair. I was delighted to see such creativity and genius on display. Everyone did a FABULOUS job! Well done! Big kudos to Ms. Lida, too. The slide show was superb! The children’s artwork was lovely, well done, Children and Mr. Sharp!

There will be a field trip to the Vista Courts on Thursday, March 21. The purpose of this trip is to get a wee glimpse of how the court system works. We will need drivers, so if you are available to drive, please notify your homeroom teacher. The permission slips will be sent home with your child on Monday. Please sign and return them to your homeroom teacher, as soon as possible. Many thanks! This field trip promises to be a very exciting day for your children. THANK YOU to Carmela Escobar and Laura Visco for arranging it.

I heard from Barnes and Noble during the week, and I have been assured that I should have our new books this coming week. This past week, we read and analyzed William Wordsworth’s “Upon Westminster Bridge.” Then, we read his biography on the Smart Board. We will read the poetry of Lewis Carroll this week, for example; “Will You Walk a Little Faster?” Your child is expected to complete two pages of cursive each night from Monday to Friday. They do not have to practice cursive on the weekends. As usual, we will also continue to work in our classroom workbooks.

70% of the Sixth Graders scored extremely high on the History Test last Tuesday. Excellent! I am so proud of them. Some students need to spend more time preparing for the test. This week in history, we will finish Chapter 8 of the history book, as I did not have the Sixth Graders on Thursday as planned, due to preparations for the Science Invention/Art Fair. We will prepare for the next History Test. I will distribute the history notes for Chapter 8, on Monday.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 18 in Wordly Wise, on Wednesday.
  • Write fifteen sentences using the vocabulary from Lesson 18.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 18 of Wordly Wise for Wednesday.
  • Some students have to turn in the rewrites of their Stage Plays.
  • Work on writing the rough draft of the “Children’s Book.”
  • Write up the history notes into the history notebooks.

May your world be bright with cheer, may your cares all disappear,

May contentment come your way, and may laughter fill your day.

~ An Irish Blessing

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead.
