Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

I hope that you all are enjoying this three-day-weekend.  This week in our literature study, we will finish Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Nye.  In addition to this, we will continue our poetry study, while we wait for our next book to arrive from Barnes and Noble.  Last week, your child received the guidelines for his/her next writing assignment “Write a Children’s Book.”  We discussed the guidelines in detail during class time.  This week, I will read various children’s books aloud with different formats, in order to prepare and inspire my Sixth Graders for this project.  The due date for this assignment will follow the Science Invention/Art Fair, as they have enough on their plates at the moment.  We will continue to work in the grammar, punctuation, analogies, note-taking, and outlining workbooks.

This week in history, we will prepare for the next History Test.  The Sixth Graders have been given the notes to Chapter 7, in order to highlight the important information/main points etc.  The next History Test is Tuesday, March 5.  We will watch videos regarding Hinduism, on the Smart Board this week, which will bring the study to life.

Reminder: There is a P.T.G. meeting in the McKeon Center on Thursday,

                           February 28, at 6:30p.m.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 16 in Wordly Wise on Wednesday.
  • Write fifteen sentences using the vocabulary words from Lesson 16.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD at the end of Lesson 16 in Wordly Wise.
  • Rewrites of Stage Plays are due on Thursday, February 28.  Costumes are due with the rewrites.
  • Work on a plot for the Children’s Book Project.
  • Study for the next History Test on Tuesday, March 5.

The words that enlighten the soul are more precious than jewels.
