HAPPY PRESIDENTS’ DAY!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

Last Tuesday, we had a great field trip to California State University San Marcos (C.S.U.S.M.).  The Eighth Graders enjoyed the chat, information, game, tour, and lunch at the university.  The trip gave them a lot to think about for their futures.  THANK YOU to my drivers: Jun Juguilon and Laura Visco.  We all enjoyed the field trip very much!

THANK YOU all for the numerous gifts of lovely cards, delicious chocolates, sweet-smelling roses, luscious lotion, and beautiful stationary that you gave to me for St. Valentine’s Day.  You made me feel very much loved and special.  THANK YOU!  I hope that you all had a wonderful day, too.

This past week, I discovered that my O.M.M.S. e-mail is not working.  I believe that a new e-mail has already been set up for the teachers via the website, but there are a few gliches that need to be ironed out, yet.  I will have a new e-mail address for you next week.  I apologize for any inconvenience to you.

This past week in literature, we finished The Odyssey.  Yahoo!  This week we will discuss and analyze The Odyssey.  Our next book, Night by Elie Wiesel, has been ordered from Barnes and Noble.  This week, we will also finish The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.  We will also return to our study of Literary Terms.  The next writing assignment is “Write a Speech.”  I will distribute and discuss the guidelines with my Eighth Graders on Tuesday.  The Wordly Wise homework has been deferred until Friday, April 1, because of the Teachers’ Professional Growth Day on Friday, February 22.

The majority of my Eighth Graders scored extremely high on the History Test last Thursday.  I am so very proud of their diligence regarding their history studies.  This week, we will finish Chapter 7 of our history book, which still focuses on the aftermath of The American Revolution.  This past week, I distributed the history notes for Chapter 7.

This week, our religious studies will focus on The Protestant Reformation.

Reminder:  There is no school on Friday, February 22, as the teachers have to attend the Religious Congress.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Write up the definitions and notes for Chapter 7 of the history book.
  • Study the spelling/vocabulary of Lesson 18 in Wordly Wise for Friday, April 1.
  • Write up twenty sentences using the vocabulary words from Lesson 18 and the S.A.T. words.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 18 of Wordly Wise for April 1.
  • Decide on a subject for a speech from the list provided.  There will be a Speech Night in May, 2013.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a GRAND week ahead!

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
