Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended Mass last Sunday for our Catholic Schools’ Week.  It was lovely to see our O.M.M.S. students serving.  They looked like angels in their white garb.  Our choir sang and sounded like angels.  A special THANK YOU to Paul Friedman who made a fantastic performance montage of our students for our O.M.M.S. website.  We ended Catholic Schools’ Week with the formal opening of our new library, which we dedicated to our beloved librarian, Mrs. Betty Bush.  Stop by and see our lovely new library.

THANK YOU to all the parents who attended the GRADUATION meeting last Wednesday evening.  It was a great turn-out from both the Seventh and Eighth Grade parents.  THANK YOU to Laura Visco and Marge Ontiveros, who directed the meeting.

Reminder: The annual Variety Show will take place in the Serra Center on Thursday, February 7, at 6:30p.m.  See you there for a great evening of entertainment.

This week in Language Arts, we will finish The Odyssey during our literature reading.  We have started to watch The Odyssey during our weekly time-slot for Literature on DVD.  My Eighth Graders are hooked.  It truly brings the book to life for them.  The Eighth Graders scored extremely high on their Literary Terms Test last Thursday.  Well done!  I am so proud of them.

This week in our history studies, we will finish the analysis of the last section of The Declaration of Independence.  Then, we will prepare for the History Test of Chapter 6.  This past week, the Eighth Graders received the notes to study for the test.  Please encourage your child to study every night for fifteen to thirty minutes.  Thank you.

During this past week, we spent a good deal of time preparing for the Acre Tests  (Catholic doctrine and morality), which begin on Tuesday, February 5.  We will review our religious notes again on Monday.  I believe that my students will do very well on this test.

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Review notes for the Acre Tests on Tuesday, February 5.
  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 16 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • Write twenty sentences using the vocabulary words.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 16 of Wordly Wise.
  • Do the CROSSWORD at the end of Lesson 16 in Wordly Wise.
  • Some students still need to turn in the last part of their Career Projects.
  • Write up the history notes into the history notebook.

Have a GRAND week ahead.
