Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

THANK YOU to all of our parents who attended Mass last Sunday for Catholic Schools’ Week.  It was lovely to see our O.M.M.S. students serving.  They looked like angels in their white garb.  Our choir sang with the sweet voices of angels.  Thus, making the whole Mass a wonderful experience.  A special THANK YOU to Paul Friedman who made a great performance montage for our website.  We ended our Catholic School’s Week with a formal opening of our school library which we dedicated to our beloved librarian, Mrs. Betty Bush.  Stop by and see our lovely new library.

THANK YOU to the Acosta family, the Fidellow/McKinsey family, the Friedman/McGowan family, and the Rudick family for the gift of the “magic pen” that works with the iPad and the Smart Board.  Yahoo! We will use it this week.

Last week, the Sixth Graders enjoyed the story Wings by Jane Yolen.  This week, we will continue our mythological reading with “The Giants’ Rebellion,”  “Two Other Rebellions,” and “Jason and the Golden Fleece.”  We will also move forward with  our study of William Wordsworth and his poetry.  The Smart Board provided us with many beautiful visual interpretations of his poem “The Daffodils.”  Sixty percent of the class did well on the Literary Terms Test last Tuesday.  However, as this was the first Literary Terms Test, there will be a retake on Thursday, February 7.  There will be no more retakes after Thursday.  Please encourage your child to study for the retake.  Many thanks!

Last week, the Sixth Graders received their study guide for Chapter 6 of their history book, which focuses on India.  The next History Test is on Tuesday, February 12.  Please encourage your child to study for this test; fifteen to thirty minutes every night will go a long way in preparing your child for it.  We watched footage, on the Smart Board, of the “Untouchables” in India.  Your children were quite shocked to hear, see, and learn about their plight (very sad and inhumane).  This week, we will review the history test questions and read Chapter 7, which focuses on Hinduism (the religion of the people of India).

Reminder: The Variety Show is in the Serra Center on Thursday, February 7, at 6:30p.m.  See you there.

The homework for this week is as follows:

  • Spelling/vocabulary test of Lesson 14 in Wordly Wise on Wednesday.
  • Write fifteen sentences using the vocabulary words.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 14 of Wordly Wise.
  • Write up the history definitions and questions etc. into the history notebook.
  • Some students still need to turn in their Stage Plays to me.

At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet. ~ Plato

Have a GRAND week ahead!
