Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

Our first week of the new year went well.  The Sixth Graders settled in quickly to their classroom work, and all reported that they had enjoyed their Christmas break.

This week in our reading of Greek Gods and Heroes by Robert Graves, the Sixth Graders will read about the following: “Europa and Cadmus,”  “Daedalus,”  “Bellerophon,”  “Theseus,”  and “Sisyphus.”  In addition to this, they will continue to work in their daily workbooks, journals etc.  I have added fifteen sentences to the weekly homework, as I noticed that some students were not fully understanding how to use their vocabulary words in a sentence.  Hopefully, this additional work will help the issue.  This week, I will set the date for their first Literary Terms Test.

We will continue to prepare for the History Test of Chapter 5, which is set for Tuesday, January 22 (they were given their notes this past week).  We will also go forward with our reading of Chapter 6, which focuses on the history of India.

Reminder:  The Middle School Dance will take place on Friday, January 25,in the McKeon Center,  from 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.  I will need chaperones to help supervise the entrances etc.  If you are available to help, please contact me.  Thank you!

The homework for this coming week is as follows:

  • Spelling and vocabulary test of Lesson 11 in Wordly Wise on Wednesday.
  • Write a complete sentence for each of the vocabulary words (15 sentences).
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 11 of Wordly Wise.
  • Work on the writing of the Stage Play.
  • Study for the History Test of Chapter 5.
  • Review the Literary Terms studied in class thus far.

Knowledge is one commodity of which we can never have a surplus.  It is not so much what is poured into the student, but what is planted that really counts.  ~ E.C. McKenzie

Have a GRAND week ahead!
