HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

Happy New Year!  I hope this new year will bring you all much love, happiness, laughter, success, and surprises.  I trust that you all had a merry Christmas with your families.  It is time to start a new year in the education of your child.  I am looking forward to returning to O.M.M.S. on Monday, January 7, as we have a lot of new and exciting work to learn, ponder, explore, and discuss before June, 2013.

Thank you again for your generosity in giving to our adopted family for Christmas.  Thank you also for the Christmas party donations.  The Eighth Graders had a GREAT time!  A special THANK YOU to Marge Ontiveros, Laura Visco, and Donna Snear-Williams.

This coming week, the Eighth Graders will return to reading the adventures of Odysseus in The Odyssey.  In addition to this, they will continue to work in their grammar workbooks, start a new comprehension workbook, and some students need to finish the punctuation workbook.  They scored extremely high on the Literary Terms Test on December 18.  I am so proud of them!  Keep up the great work for 2013!  They will return to the study of Literary Terms this week.  Some students are late with portions of the Career Project, which are now due on Monday, January 7.  All three interviews for the Career Project are due on Friday, January 11.

This week in Social Studies, we will prepare for the test of Chapter 5 of The American Journey.  Then, we will also read Chapter 6 of the history book, which focuses on the reasons that led to The American Revolution.

Our Religion study will encompass Charlemagne and division within the Church.

The following is the homework for this coming week:

  • Spelling and vocabulary test of Lesson 12 in Wordly Wise on Friday.
  • Complete all the exercises in Lesson 12 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Complete the CROSSWORD in Lesson 12 of Wordly Wise for Friday.
  • Three interviews for the Career Project are due on Friday.

Thank you, once again, for the great gift of the iPad.  It is a lot of fun to explore and it is a wonderful educational tool for the classroom, too.  I will enjoy sharing it with my students.  Thank you also for the additional Christmas gifts and treats.  I truly appreciate your VERY GENEROUS HEARTS.  Please look for my formal THANK YOU cards on Monday, via your child.

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.

Sincerely,

Miss Susan
